1979 El Camino SS

This 1979 El Camino SS was my daily driver 365 days a year. The 79 Elky started out its life as a red El Camino SS "Royal Knight" edition complete with a 305ci motor, Rochester Q-jet four barrel, HEI, and Saginaw four speed manual transmission. I owned it for seven years and put 140,000 miles on it, and lots of money in it.  I retired it in June 2001 with 210,000 miles on the odometer.  That's when I bought my 87 El Camino Conquesta.

It had a 1987 ECM running a brand new TBI 355ci with a TH400 transmission.  The 3.08 rear gears (no posi) were stock for this Elky.  Inside, the old red interior used to have bucket seats with a center console for the four speed but now there is a gray interior with a 60/40 split bench seat.

If you look close, you'll see a catalytic convertor under the drivers door.  In 2000 I had to put two on the dual exhausts to get it to pass emissions. Damn the Rhode Island smog nazis for another two years.
