The President of Mexico visited our hotel because he was the Keynote speaker at the World Economic Forum in Cancun. Security was heightened, and we even had naval ships out by our beach. However, compared to the US Secret Service, security was minimal.
For lunch on my birthday, the restaurant band sang a birthday song for me. For supper, a group of waiters came wished me happy birthday with balloons and confetti.
Like most people, I spent my 21st birthday wandering around the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza. Pictured below is the big pyramid of Kukulkan (also known as el Castillo).
The mayans built temples on top of temples, so the other pictures are taken from a small walkway INSIDE the big pyramid.
Instead of Halloween, the Mexicans celebrate Dia De Los Muertos... where they honor both the vices and achievements of dead relatives. This is a typical Dia De Los Muertos shine that was erected for the World Economic Forum.
My mom and I are standing in front of a big water fountain in La Isla Shopping Mall.
We asked many people for the name of a good, authentic mexican restaurante... and they all said, "Pericos." So, we went to Pericos our final night. It was a nice restraunte in old Cancun. It was a little more "touristy" than we thought it would be, but a fun place to eat none-the-less. The only problem was that a group had rented the whole lower floor where all the dancers and musicians were, so we didn't have the "full" experience.
