: Newsletter May 2004 At last the light nights are here and hopefully, weather permitting, the Wednesday evening training sessions will commence as of next week 12th of May and I usually manage to arrive there at about 18.30 hrs. Please remember that Thursday evenings are reserved for the helicopter enthusiasts who will have the exclusive use of the site from 17.30 hours. The Club Secretary is now back in harness after his trip down under so everything should now be back to normal. A new model on the field is a scaled up Cougar and is the brainchild of Gary Collins. Its sheer size makes it quite awesome but it handles extremely well and at present it is powered by a 23cc. petrol engine but Gary is in the process of increasing the engine size. The model is very substantially constructed with the onus on safety, high power servos operate the control systems. The dates for the British Waterplane Association events at the Colwick lakes have now been finalised and are as follows: - Sat/Sun 15th /16thMay Sat/Sun 24th/25th July Sat/Sun 18th/19th Sept. Owing to these events the Colwick site will not be available for flying on these dates, which also coincide with Saturday race meeting, so we only sacrifice the Sunday. For the newer members who may not have seen this type of flying before it is well worth a visit. A number of our members already fly at these events so plenty of advice is available should you wish to fly from water. Another hint mainly for the newcomers to flying, this time an aid for landing that is particularly useful in the dead stick situation. As the model descends if a proportionate amount of up trim is introduced then the model will virtually control its own descent and all that is necessary for the pilot to do is to turn it at the appropriate time. For those members who may have retired may work shifts, a group of us fly regularly on a Wednesday morning and all types of models are welcome including electric flight and gliders. The group has been given the nickname of Joe's geriatrics for some reason or other so if you are at a loose end on a Wednesday morning then why not give it a try.
