The Rundown - review

Starring: The Rock, Seann William Scott, Rosario Dawson, Christoper Walken
Directed by: Peter Berg

The Rundown is the type of movie I would call cute. It was some very light entertainment with some very PG violence. I consider it, and attempt to revive old action adventure movies. At some points it made me think of Indiana Jones, other parts were like Commando.

One could almost shed a tear when cameo guest Arnold Schwarzenegger passes the Rock's character in a club and says, "Have fun", thus passing the torch of action super star to the very popular wrestler. We could definitely do worse than the Rock in terms of action heroes. The man can act. There was a scene after a bar fight where his character, Beck, seemed genuinely disturbed by the experience.

The story was okay. Beck has to find his boss's son, played by Seann William Scott, who is somewhere in South America. He becomes involved in a race to find an artifact that could free the evil Hatcher's (played by Christopher Walken) slaves...by making them rich? I don't know. Anyway, Hatcher wants to keep his slaves and therefore attempts to get the artifact for himself.

The Rock is quite simply cool. I don't know what else to say. He won't get an Oscar for this but... He's cool. And no one can take that from him! Except maybe the incredibly unfunny Seann William Scott. I didn't find Stifler very funny at all in this movie. He was just an obnoxious, whiny, weasely sidekick for the rock. Boo!

Christopher Walken is an aquired taste though. You either find him hilarious or you don't. He's all delivery and awkard pauses.

There were some good action scenes including an elaborate fight between Beck and some South American rebels. Their were some great scenes in which the villains were using whips with bladed handles to attack Beck. I imagine guns were available, but I've never seen anyone attacked with bladed whips before. It seems that whips in movies up to this point have served no other purpose than lashing onto an elevated bar and swinging across a pit of some kind. I like whips...And I like this movie.

Second Opinions
DroopyMcC Fun movie that was somewhat disappointing. I dunno...I was expecting it to be funnier but it is nonetheless entertaining. Three cheers for the Rock!
