When I went to see the first Matrix movie, I was blown away by the story, the special effects and even the writing. I didn't realize that in four years time I would see the conclusion to what they probably hoped would be an epic trilogy. First off, the movie is very poorly written. Even in The Matrix Reloaded, I could see points where the writing was just uninteresting and vapid. The bad dialogue from the second has festered into atrocious dialogue in the third...that is, when they actually bother to have the characters interact. Otherwise the whole movie was just a lot of lightning and fire and rain and yelling and blood. It was more upsetting than anything. I would have walked away somewhat satisfied if they at least put a few good Kung Fu scenes in there. Not one of the action scenes was anywhere near as brilliantly choreographed or simply beautiful as either of the previous movies. But what is absolutely unforgivable, is after all that, they did not resolve any of the themes introduced in the previous movies. Even the most basic problem of having people stuck in this giant virtual reality machine seems to be for the most part, overlooked. Anything that didn't make sense in the second movie, still makes no sense in this movie. They explained why Neo has powers outside of the matrix but technically it doesn't make sense. The character names that were supposedly so deep, ie. the Merovingian, supposedly a name that would imply he's a descendant of Jesus. Persephone, the greek goddess of...something... It doesn't matter. I wasted my time trying to find meaning in it and the writers couldn't be bothered. I thought these things would be developed and they were not. At this point, I don't even know why it's called Revolutions. So much potential, wasted. The movie is so bad, it makes me wish that they never even made these movies to begin with. I know you're probably dying to know how the trilogy ends, but I'm warning you it's bad. Even if you just wanted to see a good action flick... Serious deterioration... Just in case you want to know how it ends but don't have the stomach to sit through the movie. Let me tell you. Spoiler ahead (click and drag to read): You see, Neo is somehow stuck between the matrix and the real world. They don't tell you how but...whatever. So Morpheus and Trinity go to find him. They accomplish this by holding a gun to the Merovingian's face and threatening his life. They free Neo. Then Neo is told by the Oracle that he has to go to the robot city. The Oracle is turned into another agent Smith. So Neo goes and negociates a peace treaty with the robots. If he can kill Agent Smith who has grown out of control, then the robots will withdraw the billions of robots that were about to destroy all of humankind. I cannot even articulate how Neo defeats Agent Smith. Somehow he is consumed by Agent Smith's black goo...Then he explodes out of it. Following that, all the Agent Smiths explode. And the robots, who were winning the war by the way, simply withdraw. So what you're left with, is a planet filled with killer robots, a Matrix that is still using people as batteries and a Morpheus who is just as dumbfounded as I am right now. Oh...And Neo may or may not be dead. Do I smell sequel? They wouldn't dare...Or would they?
