As a fan of Tina Fey, I was anticipating Mean Girls for a while. But then I saw the previews and didn't think much of it. Now actually having seen the movie, I must say I recommend it for some good laughs and (somewhat) accurate depictions of high school circles. Cady (Lohan) has been home-schooled her whole life. After moving to the US from Africa, she's enrolled in a public high school where she enters the ruthless world of girls. One specific group, known as the Plastics, cheat, manipulate and backstab each other, all the while keeping a facade of friendliness. At the urging of a friend who has a beef with the Plastics, Cady infiltrates their crew in order the get dirt on them. Before she realizes it, she actually starts behaving like the Plastics and loses her true identity. Will she recover? Will there be peace in high school girl land? While many representations of high school are exaggerated, they aren't so far off as the be unbelievable. The identification and segregation of the different cliques at lunch is so true. The talent show, also (except at the Follies, we didn't have scant-clothes Santas dancing). Other observations like that made Mean Girls an amusing movie. Not constantly laugh-out-loud funny, but rather a stream of chuckles. Tina Fey obviously used her clout to hire a handful of SNLers, such as Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler and Tim Meadows (who is excellent as the principal of the school). She managed to write a nice little movie that shouldn't disappoint.
