American Wedding - review

Starring: Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, Eugene Levy
Directed by: Jesse Dylan

Is American Wedding a worthy addition to the American Pie series? Yes, indeed. While not as good as the previous two movies, it's still way funnier than most "comedies" out there.

Jim (Biggs) is ready to propose to flute-girl Michelle (Hannigan) and in typical style, embarrassment ensues. They do eventually get engaged to be married and have to set up the wedding and meet the parents and all other things associated with weddings...like a bachelor party. Unfortunately for Stifler (Scott), he's not invited. Through some funny means, he gets himself invited and good thing, too, because Stifler gives the Pie movies the extra mile that makes the great.

Sure some characters aren't back, but they're loser characters, anyway. Who needed Oz or Mena Suvari or Tara Reid? They did absolutely nothing of note in the second movie and the third is better without them. The Nadia character could possibly have had some possibilities in this one, but I guess Shannon Elizabeth thinks she's too big for this series now. But Back are Finch, Kevin, Jim's dad and let's not forget the amazing MILF guys! I love how they get invited to the wedding but Stifler doesn't. Who knew they were such good friends of Jim's.

Don't worry, the raunchiness and hilarious misunderstandings is back in droves, but one thing I liked about the Pie films is that it has heart (yes, I said heart). Jim's dad cares for his son and looks out for him. Anyway scene with Jim and his dad is guaranteed to be excellent. And Stifler has some moments of character growth. I think both Biggs and Scott have some of the best comic timing of young actors out there today.

So instead of spending money on swill like Tomb Raider, have yourself a belly-aching good time at American Wedding. I think there are some legs in this franchise and I wouldn't mind seeing more in the series.
