New Malden

Where I live, where I have always lived. My beautiful suburb.

This is "Bar Malden"... the only picture I could find of New Malden in my laziness. It used to be the Haweli Indian restaurant. It had a very distinctive smell that I always remembered. I had a bizarre dream about it very, very long ago. It's about two minutes from my house.

New Malden as it is now basically grew up around the railway station (just to the left of the picture above) that was built there in the 1860s as a stop on the line between London and Surbiton

If New Malden is famous, it is so for two reasons:

New Malden possesses the single biggest Korean population in the UK. One of them was holidaying here some decades ago and had a religious experience. Now there are thousands of Koreans living in New Malden. We were in the national news when South Korea was doing well in the World Cup because the whole town had a party with the last match they won.

New Malden is the home of Rock 'n' Roe's in turn the home of local celebrity Captain Bob. They make the best Fish and Chips this side of Whangarei.

That's about all there is to my town. The railway, the Koreans, the Fish and Chips. All that's left is my Primary School.

New Malden is part of the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames.
