16th June 1940: Japan mobilises and declares war on Germany in support of France..
22nd June 1940: Italian troops begin to deploy inside France.
27th June 1940: In heavy fighting, German forces drive the French out of the southern port city of Nice. After three weeks of fighting, much of southern France is in German hands, with the major cities of Toulouse and Bordeaux cut off from the rest of the country..
