We had another good day at the CMC show at Barnwell Park, Oundle yesterday. I have enjoyed the last few CMC shows as much as any. There is no particular reason for this, apart from our SCAMPS heat win, the rest of the results have been pretty much the same. Most of the people are the same, but the general atmosphere seems even more friendly and relaxed.

Yesterday I entered in only 4 classes. I am trying not to bore Barney too much by having to stand in the ring for too long. We were awarded two 1/3rd places and a 2nd yesterday.

Wanting to support the show I had several goes at fastest recall and retrieve. I also bought raffle tickets, and actually won a prize, the first time I've won a raffle for a long time. Ann ran her lurchers in the recall, and although we won in the end, the delay by the youngster with the stopwatch at the start gave Barney an advantage.

I even tried him at 'fastest chocolate button eater' but he turned his nose up at them. I must be feeding him too well . This fun event was introduced after being spotted at a show a few years ago. Sounds fun, and it is. I attended a show being held by a friend shortly after losing Jessie, and being dogless, said I would help out. I had as much fun doing this event as at any show I have been to I think. You can easily try this at home with your friends.

All you need are 7 poles, garden canes will do. 5 paper plates and a pack of doggie 'chocolate' buttons. Place 5 poles in the ground on the plates as in the number 5 on a dice. Set the width of the side canes, so you can stand in the middle and the dog can reach them while on the lead. The poles are numbered so the dog has to zigzag to each of them. A few yards from these are a 'start' and 'finish' pole. Dogs are timed from leaving the start, going to each numbered plate, and eating the button placed on it, before running back to the finish pole.
