Just a short write up this week. There was a fun show with SCAMPS heat just outside Lincoln. This was to replace the SCAMPS heat lost in Yorkshire due to foot and mouth near the show venue.

It was drizzling when we arrived but this soon stopped. The weather had not deterred people from attending however, as there was a large entry in all the classes. Barney remained unnoticed for the first few classes, and did not get placed in the SCAMPS heat again. There were some side events, fastest recall, fastest retrieve, fastest sausage retrieve, fastest chocolate button eater, and fastest dog, bat and ball run.

We entered the fastest recall, ended up having 4 goes and he won the Lurcher class, although really put up a poor time. He enjoyed the fastest sausage retrieve as he ate the sausages, and even managed to retrieve the training dummy I took, so it must be said it was successful.

One small incident occurred when he was stung with a wasp. There were some very small wasps that have suddenly appeared in the area. It couldn't have hurt much, as he didn't even notice it. I noticed a lump appear on the bridge of his nose, I rubbed it with an antiseptic wipe and it had almost disappeared an hour later.

When the fun show resumed after the SCAMPS heat we were in several more classes, and I was surprised when he won best mover. We then got 2nd in best biscuit catcher, quite an achievement for him, and 6th in best of friends.

We met quite a few people we know, from different local dog clubs to the CMC, some we see regularly and others we haven't seen since Christmas.

A sharp shower towards the end saw a rapid departure of many, including us.

It is now usual for us to remain unplaced for the first few classes. I don't know if it takes time for him to get noticed, or I am looking so miserable they just take pity on me. Whatever the reason this has been the case at almost every show we have been to this year.

The judge was a pretty young lady, and the highlight for me was when she said Barney looks like me. As everyone remarks how handsome he is, that can only lift an old mans spirit can't it.
