A WORTH WHILE VIEW

Lord, I enjoy a beautiful sunset,
Its colors of golden red,
But it only lasts a few moments
Then fades as the sun goes to bed.
I love your beautiful forests
Of tall pine and aspen trees,
But wintertime brings naked limbs,
And forest beauty leaves.
I love to see the open plains
In waves of sweeping grain,
But reaping time brings broken stubs,
And beauty's gone again.
There's nothing like a mountain
To catch a person's eyes,
Yet time will wither even these;
One day their beauty will die.
The memory of a beautiful sunset and
Thick forests -- these are mine,
And tho' memory has a lasting value,
It will fade and decline.
The sweeping grain and beautiful mountain
Will all be gone some day,
And they'll but leave a print in memory;
Then it, too, will fade away.
When the stars have quit their shining
And this world has crumbled to dust,
Will the souls of men still live on?
O, Lord, I'm sure they must.
And that is why it is on earth
The greatest sight to see
A man bowed before his Lord
In a prayer of humility.
I'd rather look at a tear-stained face
As it gazes up at God
Than to enjoy every splendor on earth
And know it might downward trod.
There's nothing, O Lord, on earth
That I had rather see
Than a man get acquainted with Jesus
And prepare for eternity.
