LIFE'S HIDDEN FORTUNE

It's not gold, my friend, you're looking for,
Nor fame, nor power, nor might.
It's not the bulb that makes the glow
But the force behind the light.
It's not the name that makes the fame
Nor the size that makes one strong.
Words have never made a tune;
It takes thoughts to make a song.

The eyes of man have yet to see
What makes the leaven rise.
What makes the smallest acorn grow
A million times its size?
Back behind man's finite mind
Is an answer to hs "Why's."
Shadowed deep within God's good earth
Life's hidden fortune lies.

What is life? What is love?
Who sells it, when and where?
Where is the seat of happiness?
Speak up and take me there.
So many things we cannot know,
We've yet to solve earth's mystery.
Man dies, but where's he gone?

We look and search and seek, and yet
We've sought to no avail.
The unknown always lies ahead;
Its secret tips the scale.
But tho'we seek, we yet must wait
For Heaven's gold sunrise;
Up there beyond time's telescope,
Life's hidden fortune lies.
