"In the faces of men and women I see God."

DADDY, PLEASE GO WITH ME

"Daddy, won't you go with me
To Sunday School today?
Please don't tell me no again;
That's what you always say,
You haven't ever been to church
Since Mommy wnet to Heaven,
And that hs been almost two years,
For now I'm close to seven.

"Mommy would want you to, please,
Just this once for me;
Today's lesson is about Jesus
And how He died to set men free."
"I don't care what the lessson's about;
Of preachers I have no fear.
Now open up the ice box, kid,
And get me a bottle of beer.

"And if that is all they put in your head,
I don't want you to enter in;
Now fix me up something hot to eat,
And now's a good time to begin."
Time has passed, and the boy has grown,
And a change comes in his dad;
He seems to realize his wrongs and sins
And the life he lived was bad.

He prays a prayer unto his God,
And God forgives this man
And heals him of his bad habits
As we all know he can.
But now it's the boy who runs around
And drinks and smokes and all
And his dad who goes to church
And upon his knees does call.

"O God, I've made a mess of my life
And led my boy astray;
Help me, Lord,to do Thy will
And serve Thee every day."
At home we hear the father say
Unto his poor lost son,
"Please go with Dad to church tonight,
For you're the only one
I have left in the whole wide world.
And I care so much for you."

"Bah, I'm too busy with my affairs;
I'll go when I am through."
The boy, he puts it off too long,
For soon he was called away,
Called into eternity, friends,
To stand on the judgment day.

His blood was on whose hands?
His dad's, I'll be he knows,
And not a day has ever passed
As older and older he grows,
When he hasn't thought of the little boy
Who begged his dad to go
To Sunday School and church with him
And he had told him no.
