WHY BRAG?

Some people think they're the greatest things,
Something to brag about;
Some people believe they're something special
Because they're big and stout,
Now Shorty thinks he's really hot stuff
Because he's short and small,
And Slim believes he's above the other man,
Because he stands so tall
Now take that fellow with a brand new car,
Who expects the other to make way,
Well, he's no bettern'n you or me
'Cause he's only made of clay.

Yep, some people's wealth gives 'em the big head,
And these I shore 'nuff pity;
Some people brag on the country,
And others they brag on the city.
Wisdom makes some better they think;
To be wiser they're always yearning;
Others they brag on how far they've gone
Without the use of learning,
Did "ya" ever hear anybody brag on
How much they could do in a day?
Well, he's no better'n you or me
'Cause he's only made of clay.

I've heard people brag on ancestors
And who their forebears are;
'Course they brag about the rich and smart
And forget the poor have a star.
Why people want to be somebody they ain't
Will always keep me guessing;
I'd much rather be just who I am,
For now I hold God's blessing.
And when before the judgment throne,
Where we'll all stand some day,
They'll find they're no better'n you or me,
That they were only made of clay.
