There's many a time along life's journey,
Oft hidden from my eyes,
When sorrows come to bring me joy,
Blessings in disguise.
I would often question my Creator,
Just what terrible sin I'd done.
To merit so much pain and woe,
Was I such a sinful one?

And then one day He came to me,
The One who is all-wise,
And said, "Endure well your afflictions, son,
They're blessings in disguise."
And then I thought within my self,
Just how can this thing be?
How can such things work for my good
As trials and poverty?

Once again my Maker spoke
The lesson he taught was within
"They aren't given for what you've done,
But for what you might have been."
So the guardrails of affliction,
Tho' they often seem quite rough
And tho' hindering for a moment,
Keep us from the bluff.

So now I spread my wings of faith
Against the winds of doubt.
And the things that would have hindered once
Are the things that bring me out.
The storms of fear and tragedy,
That often o'er me roll,
I bravely face with a sail of courage,
And it carries me toward my goal.

What better way can a man face life
Than to know in his heart as he should
That God's grace is all sufficient
And all things work for his good?
And thankful am I, that one burdensome day,
He gave sight unto my eyes
And told me that the trials of life
Are blessings in disguise.
