I was born and raised in Malaysia.
I lived a typical life there where adversities are very much part of daily
living. For secondary education, I studied at Anglo
Chinese School,
a missionary school. Through my hard work and fierce determination to succeed academically and to improve my family situation, I won awards in both academic and
extracurricular activities. In 1984, I sat for the Malaysian Certificate of
Education, the equivalent of
The British General Certificate Education “O” levels, and was
awarded the Australian government scholarship to pursue my tertiary studies at Monash University, Clayton campus Australia.
As part of the requirements for my Monash University Honours degree
in Econometrics between 1986 and 1991, I completed various research
papers/essays in the specialized fields of economics analysis and
modeling. Furthermore, over my working
career in the Corporate Bank and financial markets between
1991 to 2004, I was also given special research assignments by my
employers such as Deutsche Bank (DB) in 1998. I undertook a research project to search for a more active role for private
international financial institutions such as DB to promote Malaysian economic
recovery from the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
I even got a teaching career in Malaysia
as an Economics Lecturer for the Curtin University Australian programs before
relocating to the States for further studies in 2004 as a Fulbright fellow at
the University of
Arizona.
I graduated with the Honours
Degree in Economics from Monash University
in 1991. On August 10 2006, I graduated with the Masters of
Arts Economics from The University of Arizona.
Monash University maintains my
profile as part of the University’s selected alumni.
