Augusto
recognizes Santiago as a champion swimmer. He tells Augusto he had to choose
between a swimming career and enginerring. Margarita gets dressed. Eloisa,
Santiago's mother tells Augusto his parents must have been special for the
family to have kept together. They talk of Vicente, an old friend who has
been like a father to them. Augusto tells Margarita he will come for her
when they are all ready to eat. He tells her that he likes Lisa's novio.
Vicente wonders who the man was, thinks of the voice, can't believe it could
have been Jaime. Then he goes to Augusto's house and is introduced to
Santiago and his mother. Santiago tells the family he wants to marry Lisa
and wants to ask for her hand. Augusto wonders about their marrying so soon,
but he, as well as the others, gives him her hand. Vicente looks at the
portrait, starts to tell Lisa about the last time he saw her father then
stops himself, tells her he likes her novio. They go into dinner and Augusto
goes to get Margarita. Santiago gives Lisa a quick kiss Margarita sits down
to dinner, but Lisa and Santiago aren't there yet. They're out in the garden
together. When they enter the dining room, Augusto introduces Santiago to
his wife Margarita. Lisa and Augusto wonder a bit about their reacton.
Margarita admits they know each other and Lisa recalls that she sells to the
company where Santiago works. Margarita gets sick and leaves the table. Lisa
explains that she is pregnant. She tells Augusto she is going back to the
table and does. Beba says she doesn't like the food from Giovanni's
restaurant. Eloisa congratulates Margarita. Augusto tells her the child is
very much wanted, they've been trying for two years. Lisa says that she and
Santiago are going to wait until she graduates. Augusto asks Santiago how he
feels about that and Santiago seems surprised, but says fine. Augusto says
he admires his patience, because he has wanted a child since the day he
married Margarita. Neither Beba nor Santiago nor Vicente has an appetite.
Augusto tells Eloisa he doesn't care if the child is a boy or a girl. After
dinner, the family goes into the living room. Santiago makes an excuse for
leaving early and his mother picks up on his need to leave early. Santiago
says goodbye. Vicente tells him that Lisa and her family are like his, if he
makes Lisa happy, he will be happy. Santiago shakes Margarita's hand. Eloisa
says her goodbyes. Margarita can barely contain herself. Vicente says
goodbye. Beba wonders at Santiago's fast exit, as does Lisa. Santiago tells
Lisa they will talk the next day. The sisters talk about how strange Vicente
was. Silvia is the one who says that Santiago changed after he met
Margarita. Augusto questions Margarita about her behavior at the table. She
was so anxious to meet Lisa's novio, then didn't say a word. Margarita tells
him that Santiago can't marry Lisa.
Jaime
walks the street, wondering what he's done, wondering if Vicente recognized
him, will tell his family. When he gets home, his wife asks him about his
son. Jaime tells her he had a son and two girls, left his wife because she
had a child with another man, Vicente, his best friend. He tells her they
thought he had been killed, she rescued him from the drink. He tells her he
needs to be successful so his children will be proud of him, perhaps forgive
him. Then she tells him the blood sample has arrived from Dr. Fonseco.
Ernesto
tells his wife that Barbara will have to live with whatever she has packed;
if she hasn't finished, that is her problem. Sofia blames Ernesto for
putting Anibal in the jungle rather than here, in place of Santiago. Ernesto
tells her that is where he belongs; just then Anibal appears. He tells them
that everybody is dying, even Juan has died. That's why he has come home.
The
blood sample waits in the laboratory while the doctor in the jungle calls
and calls, waiting for the results.
Francisco
goes to the pizza parlor where Roberto works and confronts him, accuses him
loudly of trying to kill him, of destroying his house. Some of the customers
hear the accusations which Roberto denies. Francisco challenges him to get
his gun. Finally, Franciso tells him that if his father hasn't taught him,
men attack head on not in the back. Roberto's father talks to him, tells him
that what the boy said had better not be true. Roberto cries, says the guy
was crazy. Back home, Francisco tells Bethoven he hopes he accomplished what
he wanted, to plant a doubt in Giovanni's mind and he has. Giovanni tells
Fernando he's not sure that he knows his son. Roberto recalls Franciso's
last words, gets in his car and promises Francisco he will regret what he's
done. He goes to his friends and gets the gun he gave them. Francisco's aunt
discovers what has happened to his room and blames him for the destruction.
Francisco asks his aunt why she hates him. She tells him that her brother
was a normal man until he married his mother because she was pregnant, then
he became a drunk. Just then, Roberto drives by and fires into the house.
His aunt blames him, tells him this is the last straw. She tells him to
leave.
