Manjanikkara church fete gets under way;
Church Flag hoisted

PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB 6. The annual Manjanikkara festival in connection with the 73rd feast of the Syrian Patriarch, St. Elias III, began with the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Omalloor Cross and the Manjanikkara Mar Ignatius Diara Church this afternoon.
Mar Julious Kuriakose hoisted the Patriarchal flag at the Omalloor Cross in an atmosphere charged with religious fervour.
The Patriarchal flag was also hoisted at all Syrian Jacobite churches in the State today, to mark the annual fete.
The Saint's feast will be celebrated at the Manjanikkara Diara on February 11 and 12.
Pilgrim groups coming from different parts of the State will be accorded a rousing reception at the Omalloor Cross on February 11 afternoon.
A public meeting will also be held on the Diara premises on February 11. The Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash, and the UDF convener, P.P. Thankachan, will also address the meeting presided by the Catholicos Baselius Thomas I.
The Catholicos will be the chief celebrant at the Holy Tri-mass to be held at the Diara Cathedral at 8 a.m. on February 12.
The annual festival will come to a close with a Holy Rasa, later.
