Fr.
Jacob Varghese of IOC Joints the mother Church
Fr. Jacob Varghese, a candidate of IOC Bishop election held recently, left
IOC and joined the Jacobite Church. He is from the diocese of Chengannur and
vicar of Mangalam St. George Orthodox Church, and is hailing from
Thengumtharayil family at Ranni.
H. B. Baselious Thomas I welcomed Fr. Jacob to the mother Church on the final
day of the Puthencruz convention. A declaration of allegiance to the Patriarch
of Antioch & All the East as the Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox
Church, and Catholicos H.B. Baselious Thomas I as Head of Indian Church and to
the 2002 byelaws were submitted by Fr. Jacob to the Catholicos
Fr. Jacob explained his bitter experience in IOC, for which he decided to leave
them and to join the mother Church. He was accompanied to Puthencruz by twenty
people from his parish.
A master’s degree holder in Theology from USA, Fr. Jacob converted his house as
a monastery and is serving in the nearby St. Gregorius Church as well. He was
received to the Jacobite Church as per the decision of the Holy Episcopal Synod;
the Synod Secretary Mor Joseph Gregorius Metropolitan informed.
