The 7th Meeting of the Heads of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East

The 7th Meeting of the Heads of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East was hosted by H. H. Pope Shenouda III at St. Mark Center in Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt from October 18 thru October 21, 2004.

The annual meeting was attended by H.H. Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria (Coptic Orthodox Church), H. H. Patriarch Mar Ignatius Zakka Iwas I of Antioch (Syrian Orthodox Church), and H. H. Catholicos Aram I of Cilicia (Armenian Orthodox of the Great House of Cilica, Lebanon).  The Standing Committee met for 3 days of preparatory work under the chairmanship of H. E. Metropolitan Bishoy of Damietta (Coptic Orthodox Church).  The members of the Standing Committee are: Metropolitan Bishoy and H. G. Bishop Moussa (Coptic Orthodox), Metropolitans Mar Theophilos George Saliba and Mar Athanasios Elia Bahy (Syrian Orthodox) and Archbishop Sebuh Sarkisian and Bishop Nareg Alemezian (Armenian of Cilicia).  Bishoy M. Mikhail, Ecumenical Officer of the Coptic Orthodox Church in North America,  was invited by H. H. Pope Shenouda III, to participate in the sessions of the Standing Committee and the meeting of the Heads.  He was able to address questions posed by both the Standing Committee and their Holinesses the Patriarchs regarding the activities of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in North America.  This was a great blessing for Bishoy, who was able to experience first hand the extensive work which takes place for such high level meetings.  He gained a strong appreciation of the strong bonds which exist between the Sister Oriental Orthodox Churches.  The Common Declaration issued, details the results of this important meeting.
