Sradha Perunnal:
Pilgrims given reception
PARAVUR: Thousands of pilgrims who reached
here on foot from various parts of the state to attend the 326th Sradha
Perunnal of St. Abdul Jaleel Mar Gregorios Bava were accorded a warm
reception on behalf of the Paravur St. Thomas Jacobite church authorities at the
old KSRTC bus stand junction here on Thursday.
Metropolitan Elias Mar Athanasius, Vicar Fr. Kuriakose J Marachery, Co- Vicars
Fr. Ittoop Alukkal and Fr. Mathews Parackal and officials of the Church and
Celebration Committee received the pilgrims.
The Paravoor municipal council led by chairman N A Ali accorded a civic
reception to the pilgrims in front of the municipal office.
Catholicos Thomas I Bava received the pilgrims at St. Thomas Jacobite church.
Most of the faithful had started the pilgrimage from their churches on
Wednesday.
Kollam Metropolitan Mathew Mar Thevodosios led the Holy Mass at the church on
Thursday.
In a rare ritual, holy relics such as the cross and vestment used by St. Abdul
Jaleel Bava were exhibited at the altar of the church for veneration.
In another function, Metropolitan Elias Mar Athanasius, who was recently
consecrated Metropolitan, was accorded a reception on his arrival at the church.
The Perunnal will conclude on Friday. Jacobite Church Synod secretary
Metropolitan Joseph Mar Gregorios will offer Holy Mass at the tomb of the Bava
at 6.30 am. Catholicos Thomas I Bava will be the main celebrant of the
Moonninmel Qurbana at 9 am.
