Christianity does not condone it: Mar George Theckedath |
KOLLAM: Bishop of the Nazraani Orthodox Missionary Church Mar George Theckedath
has said the unfortunate events in front of the Secretariat in
Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday is a matter of grave concern to all those who
value the dignity and honour of the priesthood of any religion.
In a statement sent to The Hindu here from Canada, he said Christianity did not
condone such activities under the direct guidance or patronage of any rank of
priests, much less, the active participation of the higher clergy in what was,
basically, a dispute over a property.
He said in a civilised society there were other avenues to solve such disputes,
but only after establishing if decades of possession could be ignored and
dishonoured. The Thrikunnath Seminary was the official residence of the
Metropolitans of the Jacobite Church. The mortal remains of Paulose Mar
Athanasios and other priests were buried there.
