KOCHI:
The Jacobite Syrian Church gets a new Metropolitan with the consecration of
Kozhiparambath Elias Ramban as metropolitan on New Year Day. The ceremony will
be held at Puthencruz Patriarch Cathedral which is the headquarters of the
Church. The order from Antioch appointing the new Metropolitan will be read out at the churches on Sunday. The new Metropolitan will be the secretary and assistant to the Sreshta Catholica Bava.
Kuriakose Mar Theophilos, Metropolitan of UAE and Europe, announced at a news conference here that financial aid for the marriage of 60 poor girls will be distributed after the consecration ceremony at Puthencruz on January 1. Sewing machines will be distributed to 50 women.
The financial aid for the weddings and sewing machines comes from the members of St Mary’s Sunoro Church, Sharjah. Another project for the distribution of 150 artificial limbs by Dubai Cathedral is on the anvil, said the Metropolitan.
Mathews Mor Ivanios, president of the Malankara Youth Association, said that the association had constructed 200 houses for the poor across the state. The Shresta Catholica Bava will soon announce the Metropolitan of Kozhikode diocese, said Mathews Mor Aphrem, Metropolitan of High Range. Spokesperson of the church Fr Varghese Kallappara, Fr Aby Elangamattom and Chev John Punnamattom also attended the press conference.
