Church divides Angamaly diocese into three zones

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: To ensure comprehensive development of the Angamaly diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, the diocese has been divided into three zones — Perumbavoor, Kothamangalam and High Range — and committees have been appointed to look after development activities, a press release said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Diocesan Council, presided over by Catholicos Baselios Thomas I, at the Mount Sinai Catholicate Palace. The development committees will be under the auxiliary bishops, said the release.

The committees will draw up development blueprints for each zone, and these will be implemented on being approved by the governing bodies, the release added.

The meeting demanded that the Government take a just and impartial decision on Thrikkunnathu seminary and its property. The press release described the claims made by the Malankara Orthodox Church as "against the grain of truth."
