‘CM should apologise to devotees’

Saturday October 8 2005 12:18 IST

ALUVA: The Jacobite church is not satisfied with the action taken against policemen involved in manhandling devotees and priests at St. Mary’s Jacobite Church near UC college here on July 3.

District Collector Mohemed Hanish conducted an inquiry into the incident on the instructions of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Superintendent of Police M Wahab suspended seven policemen, including a head constable of Kalamassery police camp.

Fr Varghese Kallapara, spokesperson for the Jacobite church, alleged that a few constables were made scapegoats when senior police officials were also involved in the case.

“The policemen would not have dared to enter the church and attack the devotees without orders from higher police officers,” said Fr Kalapara.
