His Beatitude the Catholicose Aboon Mor Baselius Thomas I visits the St. Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Jeppu, Mangalore on 17th April, 2004

His Beatitude  Baselius Thomas I,  the Catholicose of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church,  visited St. Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Jeppu, Mangalore on the 17th of  April 2004. He conducted the evening prayers and presided over the meeting held at the premises of the Church thereafter. The members of the St. Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, the oldest Syrian Orthodox Church in the Region of Mangalore,  accorded  a warm welcome to the Catholicose and felicitated him.

The Vicar of the Church, Rev. Fr. Sunny John, and the Secretary, Dr. Varghese George welcomed the Catholicose on the occasion, while Dr. Joe Varghese, the Convenor of the church, Mr. Jolly Mathew, the Trustee felicitated the Catholicose. The members of the Church, the representatives of the Marthamariam Vanitha Samajam, and Sunday School honored the Catholicose in this function.

On this solemn occasion, the members of the Church and the Executive Committee re-affirmed their loyalty, allegiance, love, and respect to His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Prince Patriarch of Antioch and All the East of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, and to the Catholicose  His Beatitude Baselius Thomas I.

 

About Catholicose of the East

The Catholicose of Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, H.B. Baselius Thomas I dedicated his life to the service of the Church at the age of 24. He was instrumental in the establishment of a number of churches and other charitable institutions, and hospitals in Kerala. He led the missionary activities of the North Indian mission at Bhilai and the Eastern Missionary Society in the 1970s. The jurisdiction of the Easter Missionary Society includes churches in the region of Mangalore, Honovar, and Bombay.

The Catholicose, H.B. Baselius Thomas I   was ordained on July 26, 2002, by the Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I  Iwas,  the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, at Damascus. The Catholicose commands the love, respect, and loyalty of the Syrian Orthodox Christians with 900,000 believers. There are 944 churches including a majority of the historical and traditional Syrian Orthodox Churches, of India that owe their unflinching loyalty and allegiance to the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, the Supreme head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. 

 

About St. Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Mangalore

St. Anthony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Mangalore, is the oldest Syrian Orthodox Church in the region of Mangalore. It was established in 1933, by the Late Rev. Fr. George Pinto who was ordained as a priest, by the Patriarch of Antioch of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church. The "West Coast Syrian Mission", the brotherhood-mission founded by Rev. Fr. Pinto was instrumental in establishing churches at Mangalore, Brahmavar, Honovar, and Bombay.
