Violence mars the Managing Committee meeting of Methran Kakshi
*** Protest by Elamkulam (Cochin) Malankara Orthodox church members in front of the Kottayam Old Seminary turns violent when Catholicose Mar Mathews II seems hesitant to hear their grievances. The agitated protestors blocked the car of the Catholicose at the entrance and the driver was attacked, car damaged. They started shouting slogans against the Church leadership; some were standing on top of the car of the Catholicose. Protestors also complained that serious corruption is existing in the Angamali diocesan office. Later at the managing committee meeting, the Church leadership was forced to announce that a special committee will be formed to find a solution to these issues.***
***Catholicose Mar Mathews II at the managing committee meeting publicly announced that he has contacted P C Alexander a few days back also, regarding the case. The Catholicose reminded that Alexander is a Rajya Sabha member. Mar Mathews II also announced that two of their advocates will go to New Delhi on 20th or 21st of this month. Mar Nicholovos who defected to Methran Kakshi some years back, is leading the team for Church Case in Supreme Court. He explained the details of the case at the meeting.***
***The Managing committee will meet again on 13th or 15th of January to formally announce the date of the coming Church Association. New Metropolitans and a Priest Trustee (and sometimes a Lay Trustee also) to be elected at this Association. Some of the members questioned the present Church constitution which give opportunity to the once elected trustees to continue for their life term.***
***A managing committee member from Malabar said that he feel shameful at the report that an Astrologer was brought to Devalokam Catholicate Aramana to find out suitable 'positions' of the Church buildings. He asked the responsible persons to file a defamation case against the Mangalam daily which 'exposed' the matter. Anyhow none was ready to give a reply. Members also shouted at the meeting on the unnecessary political interference of the Church in the Tiruvalla by-election.***
