Supreme Court postpones the Church case for another month.
Following the request of the Jacobite counsel to allot time for submitting an affidavit by Catholica Bava, the two bench court comprising of Justice Balakrishnan and Justice Srikrishna postponed the case for about a month. Three weeks is allotted for submitting the said affidavit by the Jacobites and another seven days is allotted for submitting the counter by the opposite party.
The present petition was filed by the Malankara Orthodox faction in Supreme Court, requesting for the cancellation of the historic High Court Judgment which upheld the rights of the parish churches. The original plea in the Kerala High Court was to get Police protection for the Catholicose and Metropolitans of the Orthodox faction to enter the churches of the Jacobite Syrian Church, claiming that every churches belongs to that faction.
When the case came up in the Supreme court today morning, the Methran faction’s counsel Adv.Nariman argued that the Jacobites are intentionally delaying the process. But the Jacobite council explained that they are asking for more time since they have not yet received any such notice to Catholica Bava from the Supreme Court. He added that all other records asked by the court have already been submitted in time. However when the court records was verified it was found that what the Jacobite counsel said was true and hence the court gave enough time to submit the same.
