Chapter 4: Further Indiscretions The next night Dali snuck out like she had the week before. This time though, the cat didn't stop her. She traced her way back to the concert hall. Vey and Dali met again, another moonlight meeting. Dali drew closer to Vey. The scene looked familiar, Vey against the marble wall. He looked like he glowed in the moonlight. Dali put her hand on the other side of the pillar. Its surface was smooth, but not as smooth as she knew his skin would be. She looked at him. His shirt was slightly open, his hair ruffled from the breeze. She shivered. Definitely sexy. She thought. She stepped out into the light and made her way to where Vey stood. She had never noticed him watching her. She never felt his eyes. His pale purple eyes... She moved closer to him and he held his hand out. Again deja-vu. He pulled her close. Dali shuttered with excitement. Perhaps she wouldn't mind another kiss. Kiss. She flushed a bright pink at the thought. "Did you miss me? Didn't we meet like this a week ago?" Vey smiled "I've been watching you Dalia. I said I would. I never break promises." Dali looked at him. "I never knew you were there. Not once. How could you be there?" "Magic perhaps." Vey chuckled. Dali pushed away from him. Her expression went from one of concern to horror. "Magic! It's illegal and yet you continue to do this? I can't stand it, you must tell me. How can you stand to break the laws with no concern, no thought to the consequences?" "I told you before Dalia. I don't think it's right. What was done happened hundreds of years ago." Vey sighed. "Besides, I'm not so bad. I'm not the only one with dirty little secrets." That hit hard. She looked away from him. He must know about my past... "I suppose everyone has secrets. I-I" Vey stopped her by putting his hand to her lips. She could have been kissing that marble pillar for that's what his hand felt like. "Do you hate me Dalia?" She flushed. "I-no-I- not really." She couldn't confine the feeling inside. She wanted to burst out and scream that she was deeply attracted to him. She wanted to throw her arms around him. She wanted another kiss. She looked into his eyes. Pleading to be loved. His stare was a little cold. "Do you hate men who use magic?" His eyes shone in the white light. "I just don't think it's right to break our laws." She felt dejected. "Funny." "Why?" "It's just considering your brother, whom everyone adores, is the same as me." "What?!" Dali felt like he had beaten her. He had won some spiritual battle. She felt as if her insides were out. The disbelief was all over her face. "Yukii, no he-he can't..." "He does." Vey looked into Dali's crystal blue eyes. "He believes the same as me. That those laws are wrong." Dali put her hands to her face. Yukii is...Yukii is...Magic...NO! Dali started to fall forward. Vey caught her and wrapped his arms around her. She felt her world was going to shatter, but wrapped up in his arms she felt safe. Like how she felt when she was young, wrapped in Yukii's arms. She felt Vey's warmth, his closeness. She wanted to drown in him. He lifted her face gently to his and kissed her. The passion was real. She wanted this feeling to last forever. That kiss seemed to last forever, her heart pounding with every second passing. He pulled away this time. She thought she would break. She didn't want him to go. She wanted him to hold her. She wanted to be loved. His purple eyes pierced into her soul again. She thought she'd explode. "I like you Dalia. You really aren't concerned with the rules as much as you'd like to think." She gasped. "If you were, you'd have never met with me the first time. Meet me again next week?" "Same time?" He nodded and left. She kind of glazed over. She didn't want to move. She saw him disappear out of sight and turned to sneak back into her room. This time Pel was asleep in her own bed. No more surprises. Crisith was again waiting up for her. He let out a low mew. A welcome back. She climbed into bed and he snuggled up to her. "Nite, Crisith." She blew the last candle out. The next week arrived very slowly. Dali felt like years had gone by. She kept close tabs on Pel, afraid she might have noticed something. Or found out she had left. Luckily for Dali, Pel was clueless. She never noticed the Dali had even left a second time. She was sure Pel would have mentioned it if she had. Tomorrow would be the night of their third meeting. It excited her that she was doing something bad, but it also scared her. She didn't want to get caught. She wondered how many more times they would meet out there at night. Still she was surprised that both times no one caught them. Dali left class and went out into the yard for lunch. She found Pel and sat down. It was a nice day today. The sun was high and it wasn't too hot. The sky was a deep blue, almost the color of Marid's hair. A slight breeze stirred. Dali felt lost in the moment. She sat with her back to the building, her hair caught in the breeze. She didn't even try to contain it. She cut a pretty figure sitting there. It took a minute for her to realize that she was sitting in a shadow. She looked over to Pel whose eyes were bugging out of her pretty porcelain head. Dali looked up. "Dal, I thought you'd never notice." "Yukii? What are you doing here?" He pulled her to her feet. "Come on." Pel was still making eyes at him. He winked at her. She about passed out. He took Dali's arm and ushered her to a private corner. "Dal, I need to talk to you." Dali looked down. "Well, I have something I want to ask first Yukii." "What?" "Is it true? Are you practicing," Her voice turned into a whisper. "magic?" He stared at her. "Which brings me to my point. I heard you were seen with Vehasheo." "Who?" "Vehasheo, Vey." Her eyes went wide. "I don't have any idea what you're talking about." He grabbed her arm tight. "Stay away from him Dalia. He's dangerous. Don't get involved!" "You still didn't answer my question!" She yelled defiantly. "I think you know too much, little sister." Ouch. "Little sister" now that hurt. Yukii never called her that unless he was very angry. Dali's eyes flashed. She wrenched her arm away from him. "I'll see whoever I want, whenever I want! You can't stop me." "I'm serious Dalia, Don't go near him. I mean it! I don't want you getting hurt." "What concern is it of yours?" His voice became gentle again. "You're my one and only sister." "Yukii..." "Don't let me hear of you and him being seen!" Yukii turned back to the Boy's Academy. Dali's eyes were cold to Yukii. Dangerous... That just made her want to see him more. "I don't care brother, I'll see him if I want." She walked back to where Pel was keeled over. "Oh snap out of it Pel, he's gone." Pel sat up and patted her hair back. "What was that all about?" "Nothing. He just wanted to be an ass." Pel about popped. "An ass? Well he does have a rather nice one." Dali smirked and leaned over and smacked her on the arm. "Enough." "I'll be bruised there tomorrow." Dalia's anger had cooled some by the time she went to bed. She thought about tomorrow night and she sighed. She couldn't wait. She knew that she'd have trouble sleeping tonight though. Pel lay snuggled in Dali's bed. She'd had a bad dream. Right now Pel reminded Dali of a five year old child. Dali couldn't help it. She felt very protective of Pel. She supposed it was because she had to raise her brother Rumi. Dali lay down next to Pel. Pel kicked her. Dali knew the consequences of sharing a bed with Pel. Pel thrashed about often. She was a little off for an elf. Geny called it 'Being around humans too long syndrome'. Nice syndrome. I don't thrash about like that. I wonder what elves dream about anyway? Dali thought. Pel had a big smile on her face. "Yukii..." she whispered and giggled. Dali turned to her, about to smack her. Pel was fast asleep Exasperated Dali tried to fall asleep. She was still excited about tomorrow night, but she needed to try to sleep. Pel looked down as Dali slept on. Crisith was watching her as she crossed the room to the dresser. The cat sat up and jumped onto the dresser. Pel stopped. "I've been caught!" The cat stared at her and pawed at a little box on top. Pel was curious. She stepped over the chest on the floor and grabbed the box Crisith had pawed at. She slowly opened it, afraid it would blow up. In the box was a piece of paper. Pel unfolded it. I've been watching, have you seen? I want nothing more than to see you again. Meet me tomorrow night. Same time. Same place. "What the forgoth is this?" Pel turned her purple eyes to the cat. "Well?" She stared at her. Blink. "Is she meeting someone tonight?" "Meow." "I'll take that as a yes! Is it Yukii?" "Mreow." "I guess I'll just have to go too!" She patted the cat and replaced the box and paper. She opened the top drawer in the dresser and pulled out a different box. This one had Dalia's jewelry in it. As Pel pulled out a necklace Dali sat up. "Pel?" She opened her eyes. "What are you doing???" Pel winced. "Well I was hoping to borrow this without you knowing." "You could ask Pel. Fine." Dali flopped back on her pillow. She put her hand up. She wondered what she would wear tonight. "It's an off day Pel. What are you going to do?" "Nothing I suppose. Why? Do you have a date tonight?" Dali froze. Does she know? "No, I-I'm not doing anything either." Dali got up and dressed. Pel had already run off. She wandered around the halls and out into the field. Dali felt eyes on her all day. Every time she turned she swore she saw Pel jump behind something. Strange. The day passed rather quickly. After sundown Dali waited for Pel to fall asleep. When she was sure she was asleep, Dali pulled out a new dress she had made. She hoped Vey would like it. She lit one candle and climbed out the window. She made her way across the yard. Pel had pretended to sleep and after Dali lit the candle she opened her eyes. She got up. The cat was sitting in the window. "Will you help me?" "Meow!" He jumped out the window. Pel followed. They carefully hid in the shadows so Dali wouldn't see them. Pel could barely make out Dali's figure. They came across to the concert hall. Pel stopped. There was someone waiting there in the moonlight. Dali ran to meet him. Pel watched with interest. Dali ran up to Vey. She threw her arms around him. "I thought I wouldn't make it. I wanted to see you sooner!" "I've thought of you often too." Vey held her. Dali stepped back. "Do you like it?" She held up the ends of her dress. "I made it just for you." "It's beautiful. But not as beautiful as you." Dali looked down and blushed. Pel was getting a kick out of this. The boy still had his back to her so she couldn't tell who Dali's boyfriend was. She inched closer to see if she could hear. She only made out bits and pieces. She didn't want to get too close, she was afraid of being seen. Dali looked up and then to him. "I think this moon shines just for the two of us." He hugged her. "Maybe it is." She was so happy just to be close to him. The light fell just on them. Pel looked on with wonder. It seemed so magical, even to her. "Just for you." He hugged her tighter. "I want this moment to be forever. I miss you when you're not with me." "It would if this was our destiny. Dalia." He kissed her. She wanted nothing more than this forever. Pel felt happy for her best friend. She wanted to leave them, but she also wanted to know who the boy was. Dali kept talking to him but his back was still turned. Pel inched just a little more. She was still in the shadow. She leaned forward. The boy turned. Pel froze. Her breathing became labored. Oh Goddess. She put her hand to her face and couldn't stop her head from spinning. Crisith pawed at her to go. She turned and crawled away from the moonlight indiscretion. She followed the cat back to her room. She climbed into bed to wait for Dali. I don't understand. Why? WHY HIM!? Pel sat and waited. Dali and Vey said their good-byes and agreed to meet again the next week. Dali climbed back into her room. Pel was sitting up waiting for her. "Where were you again?"
