Chapter 1
I hate rain. Why do I always forget my umbrella? I thought, I think god enjoys seeing us run around like we’re trying to dodge the raindrops. Some joke…I think the weatherman likes to be wrong. Sunny my ass. I’ll probably be the only one who forgot my umbrella today…Ick…My shoes are squishy…
“Eep…” I squeaked as I bumped into someone. One minute you’re minding your own business and the next you’re sitting on the ground.
“I’m really sorry.” I apologized, glancing up. A young man was standing there, looking like he was trying not to laugh. He looked about 16 or 17 and had short blonde hair. He was only about my height, but he was kind of cute.
“That’s alright,” he replied, offering to help me up, “Are you okay?” He was trying so hard not to laugh. I probably looked like a drowned rat.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Pride’s a little dinged, but other than that I should be alright.” I said accepting his help, “What about you?”
“Oh…Well…you did step on my toe…” he said with a smirk.
“Sorry…” I glanced at my watch, “Oh great…I’m gonna be late. I gotta go. Sorry!” I hollered back at him as I ran off.
My teacher hates tardiness. She’s really a pain in the butt. I wound up getting detention. Sometimes I think my friends only like me because I can make them laugh. Lunch wasn’t fun. They all decided to gang up on me to poke fun of the fact that I was late and I was soaked when I did get there. I gave up trying to stop them.
“Hey…What’s the matter?” Mitsuri asked, “You know we’re just teasing you.”
“You two should stop. She doesn’t look to happy.” Yuri said over the top of her book.
“Come on, Okami. Give us a smile.” Kyoko said as she glomped me.
“I…would…but it’s…kinda…hard when…you can’t...breathe…” I gasped. She looked at me and let go so fast I think she thought I was gonna pass out. We all laughed at her reaction.
“Hey! Let’s go to the arcade after school.” Kyoko suggested.
I think she’s a bit of a dunce sometimes. Her memory is really bad, but what can you do. I reminded them that I had detention, and they all looked really disappointed.
“You can always go without me you know?” I commented as we walked back to class.
“Really? You wouldn’t mind?” Kyoko asked with a worried look.
I shook my head no as we entered the classroom and sat down. I noticed it was still raining when I glanced out the window. Great, I thought, I get to get soaked again. This is not going to be a good day.
After school, I sat staring out the window during detention. I was beginning to think God hated me. The rain just kept coming and looked as if it would never stop. Detention over, I walked to the front door and wondered if I should call home and ask for a ride. Guess I shouldn’t. Well…Time to get wet again. I started to walk out when I felt a hand on my shoulder and an umbrella appeared over my head. I guess I jumped, because the person behind me laughed. Turning to see who it was, I couldn’t help wondering if it was some creepy old guy.
“Oh…It’s you.” It was the guy from this morning.
“Thought you might not want to get soaked again.
“Thanks.”
“By the way, I’m Omi Tsukiyono.” He said sticking his hand out to shake.
“Okami…Okami Kurasawa.” I told him, shaking his hand. “You go to this school, too?” I had never seen him before. Maybe he was a loner or something.
“Yep. Umm…” he looked down, “Would you like me to walk you home?”
“No, that’s okay.” He looked so cute when he acted shy…like a little brother, “Getting a little wet never hurt anybody.” He looked so down, I just wanted to hug him.
“Well, at least let me take you to my place and let you borrow an umbrella.”
“Hmm…Well…Alright.”
As we walked, he told me he worked at a florists and that’s where we were going. He was pretty sure someone there would let me borrow an umbrella. As we walked, he told me about the shop and the other employees.
“It’s not a large shop, but I kinda like it that way. We tend to have crowd of girls outside, but maybe they won’t be there today. Aya really doesn’t like them and they never buy anything, which bugs him for some reason. Let’s see…Youji is playboy. You’d better watch yourself. He usually doesn’t go for younger girls, but still. Ken is kinda introverted, I think, but he’s really nice.”
“Wait…Are you telling me there are no girls working there?”
“Well…There is the old lady who owns the shop…Other than her, no. Anyway, Aya has a slight difficulty being nice…”
I can’t believe this, I thought, How weird is it that for male florists are working at the same shop. Wonder why they’re all florists? Hmm…A mystery…
“…a cat. Oh, here we are. Great, no girls. Let’s see if we can find you an umbrella.”
Oops…Zoned out…Well he was right. It is kinda small in here, but it’s quaint. Oh…Hey…These guys are kinda hot.
“Hey guys. This is Okami. I was gonna let her borrow an umbrella. Do you know where one is?”
“Should be one in the back room.” The redhead said, kind of gruffly. Must be Aya. All of a sudden the blonde was by my side holding my hand, as Omi left the room.
“Please come in. Omi’s so kind to bring you here. Let me show you to a seat.” He was really creeping me out.
“Who’s it good for? You or her? You do know she’s still in high school, right Youji?” the brunette, most likely Ken, commented from the door that Omi had gone through.
“Yes…Of course I do. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t show her some hospitality.” He looked at me, “Ignore these oafs. Here you go. Can I offer you something to drink while you wait?”
“Umm…No, thank you.” I replied as I sat on a stool. Is this guy for real? And why is he still holding my hand? I should stop this…“Excuse me. Could I have my hand back now?” I heard snickers from the direction of the door.
“Oh. I’m sorry. Umm…I wonder what’s taking Omi so long finding that umbrella.” He blushed as he walked away. As he passed Ken, I saw Youji glare and punch him.
“Excuse him. He thinks he’s God’s greatest gift to woman kind.” The redhead apologized, “I’m Aya and that’s Ken.” He said pointing to the brunette. Wow I was right.
“Nice to meet you.” Ken said, “So…You and Omi just friends or are you more than that?”
“Ken!” Omi exclaimed as he came back, blushing.
Who does this guy think he is, anyway? I thought, So what if we were more than “just friends”, it’s not like I would tell a complete stranger. “We’re just friends, thank you! And I would prefer it if you didn’t insinuate things that you have no right to. Omi just offered to walk me here and let me borrow an umbrella, which I truly appreciate." I replied, the last part directed at Omi.
“No problem. Here you go.” He handed me the umbrella, still blushing.
“Thanks. I think I better go. It was nice meeting you Aya.” I ignored Ken, “See you later Omi. I’ll return this tomorrow.” As I walked out the door, I heard Omi and Youji laughing. Probably at Ken’s face. I could just imagine it.
I bet he won’t say anything dumb for awhile, I thought smugly, Now let’s see…How do I get home from here?
Author's Notes: So what do you guys think? Let me know at my email: makochan_amichan@yahoo.com, or just tell me on our guest book. I know it's not the greatest story, but it's actually one of the better one's I've written. I have to say that it should get better as I go, but I'm not sure how much better. It does get funnier in the second chapter, which I should have up some time this week. Hope you guys like it. Mata ne!!!
