Hinoeuma has established itself as London's main venue for power electronics, a genre so
extreme it makes Slipknot look like the Teletubbies. Performance-based, it melds solid
walls of carefully constructed noise with disturbing projected images and eviscerating
diatribe. Stalker, a side project of UK industrialists Maruta Kommand, sees vocalist Andi
Penguin spew out his darkest psychosexual thoughts as a ritual act of debasement in front
of his female co-vocalist. Con-Dom, a veteran of the scene, presents a Moby-esque figure
as he rants about cultural identity and his stigmatised position in a PC society. Much of
tonight's show was uncomfortable to watch, but it makes you think about what you're
watching, which immediately makes it worth ten cretinous Limp Bizkit shows. 8/10"
- Metal Hammer Stalker were the opening act,
and lasted forty minutes. Before and during the set, Andi consumed most of a litre bottle
of cheap vodka. Leena, who was entirely sober, dyed her hair blue in honour of the
occasion. John and Dave used almost all of the equipment visible on the table during the
set. The set was recorded on video by Gaya Donadio, and on CDr at the mixing desk. The
resulting audio recording will hopefully be released via the Kokampf label
later this year. |
