The One and Only

Shrine to Makimura

As you might have guessed from the title, this is the world's only Makimura Shrine. Well, I haven't seen any others. It's not surprising. After all the guy was only around for the first five eps of the anime, and the first vol of the manga. *sigh*

Hideyuki Makimura (or Maki-chan as Ryo calls him) is the older brother of Kaori. Well, he really isn't her older brother. Kaori's real father was a criminal who was killed when Maki's father, who was a cop, chased him. Kaori's mother was already dead and she had no other relatives. So he brought her home and told Hideyuki that she was to be his little sister from then on.

When the father passed away, Kaori lived with Maki. Maki was also in charge of a ring that had belonged to Kaori's real mother. It was to be given to her on her 20th birthday. But he would never give it to her. For it was on that day, he was killed. Some birthday present, eh?

Here's what happened. On that day, March 31, a job came up. It was Maki's job to meet with potential clients. Well, this client was a drug-ring lord and wanted Ryo to do away with his competition. Maki refused the job. The man sent someone after him. Now there are two versions of Maki's death.

In the manga, he is attacked by a guy who's on some kind of drugs that, not only make him impervious to pain, but also make him strong. The guy destroyed Maki's car and nearly beat the man to death, including spearing him with his car's bumper. Still, Maki didn't exactly go down without a fight. He did shoot the guy several times, for all the good it did. In the anime, he is simply shot by some hitman. But to have a guy's bumper sticking out of his back was a bit too gruesome for a tv show.

Even if the death is different, the ending's the same. Maki lived long enough to make it to Ryo's place. Without the car, for obvious reasons in the manga, but I'm still not sure why he didn't have it in the anime. Maybe he didn't feel like driving. Anyways, he collapsed into Ryo's arms and asked him to take care of Kaori. He also asked him to give her the ring. He offered Ryo money for the job of taking care of the drug overlord, but Ryo told him that all the times they had had together was more than enough payment.

Now I'm sure you're wondering, why the shrine?? Well, simple. I adore Maki-chan! ^_^ What can I say? He's handsome! Plus, he adores his sister, even though he knows she's not really his sister. He regards Ryo as his best friend and probably knows the man better than most. He'd have to, to trust his sister with a well-known pervert. And, the guy is cool!

I meant, look at this pic! This is the moment after the drug overlord made a threat towards Kaori. One of those, "you wouldn't want anything to happen to your sister.", lines. Nobody messes with the man's family! Now is that cool or what?? And just look at the intensity in his eyes! *sighs* How can I not adore the guy? ^_^

Disclaimer! Maki-chan doesn't belong to me (no matter how much wishing I do). *sigh* He's the property of Tsukasa Hojo (*bows down* thank you Hojo-sama for creating Maki-chan!), Jump Comics, ADVision, and others.
