"The Vanover Genealogy Page"

In his book"The Vanover Family"Gregory Lynn Vanover makes the following statement:

The earliest proven ancestor of the Vanover family is Cornelys Van Hovgem(as he signed his name).  He and his wife, Maria Winterslick, and at least three chldren, including Cornelys, the younger, migrated to New York before 14 April 1685.  There is evidence to suggest that he may have migrated in 1684 from the providence of Zeeland, in the Netherlands.  Cornelys Van Hovgem and his wife, Maria Winterslick, are mentioned in the colonial records without patronymics, suggesting that their surnames were well established before their migration.   the Vanover surname, like many other Dutch surnames, underwent a series of different spellings, before the present spellings of the name was used.
