Welcome, to my beginning genealogy class!

I have made this page in hopes that it will help you in finding the resources to find your ancestors.When I first started out with my genealogy I was at a lost of where to start so here are some "tools" in case you've forgotten these resources we went over in class.

Places to find information:

NEWSPAPERS show:

birth,marriage announcements & obituaries

GOVERNMENT RECORDS:

census.jpg (6816 bytes)

taken every 10 yrs since 1790

Social security applications

TAX RECORDS:

show where ancestors lived,what they earned and owned

Marriage CERTIFICATE SHOWS:

NAME OF BRIDE & GROOM:  their residence,age and birthplace:

NAME OF BRIDE & GROOMS PARENTS: their race and birthplace (will show MAIDEN name of their mother)

Date of License to marry: witnesses to marriage ceremony: date of marriage and signature of person who married them.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE shows:

child's name,birthdate,town-State where born, hospital, residence of parents,Father and mother's name, age, State they were born and doctor's name who delivered child

DEATH CERTIFICATE shows:

city,county,State& residence where deceased died

name of deceased, date of death,sex,race,married, widowed or divorced,date of birth,age in yrs last birthday, occupation, birthplace

Father's name, Mother's (MAIDEN)name, and husband or wife's name

Social security number, informant's name and address

Cause of death, name of doctor who attended the deceased

name of cemetary, funeral director signature & location where buried

everything needed to do your research..you can order films from Salt Lake city for a very small fee if its not at the local FHC

So I've given you   a few "tools" to use to find your ancestors.  Also go to your living family and take a tape recorder with you and ask for permission to ask that person questions. Old letters and diaries might furnish valuable information  When you've gathered as much information as you can get..take the family group sheets and pedigree charts out and start filling in the information you have then type it into your PAF program,export for Temple Ready. You will be taking 3 disks to the Family History Center..one you exported for the Temple Ready and 2 blank floppies. If you have any questions you can email me
