Comments:Notes from Duley: "I recieved this show in trade from a fellow Marillion trader. When I listened to it, I was pleased with the sound quality, but the discs had a few problems. For starters, the show was on 2 discs. Disc 1 was 40 minutes, and disc 2 was 30 minutes. Why this was spread over 2 discs I'm not sure. My guess is that the show was originally on cassette tape and the person who transfered it to cdr put each side on a separate cdr. In any event, I decided this show belonged on a single disc.

Another problem was that the person who taped it from FM was probably in a fringe area for broadcast reception. While the signal is strong and clear, in spots you can hear some faint FM static in the right channel. While remastering this I tried to neutralize as much of this static as I could without effecting the music in anyway. I was largely successful and in any spot where the results were undesirable, I left the static rather than diminish the sound quality of the music. To tell you the truth, you don't really notice the static over loudspeakers, but I normally listen in headphones, so it was a bit more noticable. Again, the static was not throughout the whole show, just in spots.

Yet another problem was fade outs between tracks. This was an FM show with DJ voiceovers between the songs. Apparently the guy who put this onto cdr didn't care for the DJ's voice, so rather than leave it in, he decided to cut out the DJ voice overs between tracks. He did this by fading out at the end of each song, cutting out the voice over and then fading into the new song. Personally, I hate gaps or fadeouts between songs so did my best to piece this back together. I did this by cross fading the end of one track with the first of the next. For the most part this turned out fairly well, although a couple of the transitions do sound a bit unnatural if you are listening with a critical ear. Note that there are a couple tracks that still have the DJ voiceover present, as he was talking over the music and could not be cut out without cutting music. That's fine with me, as I'd rather hear the DJ than miss any music.

I used no noise reduction or EQ when remastering the show. It sounded quite good as it was, and judging by the sound of it I would guess it was taken from the master or a 1st gen at most.

So, in summary, if you are a perfectionist, this may not be the show for you. But if you are looking for a good sounding H era Marillion show, this should be worth it. I'd be interested in any comments about how well you think the track transitions turned out.

BTW, I haven't made any artwork for this show. If someone who is artistically inclined feels this production is worth their time to make some, please make sure to post it here."
