Review: Taken from BruceBase: ONE show, with Springsteen making a guest appearance with THE SUNDANCE BLUES BAND, who are the sole act on the bill, doing a bar band show consisting of multiple 40-minute sets with breaks in between. "The Captain's Garter" was situated at the location that is today occupied by a club called "The Headliner". The above-mentioned songs are a "complilation" tape of the evening's show, as there are discernible edits between most of the tracks. This is a very good sounding audience tape, close to soundboard standard, and makes for enjoyable listening. THE SUNDANCE BLUES BAND for this show is it's original line-up, consisting of Southside Johnny (harp), Steve Van Zandt (guitar), Joe Hagstrom (organ), Garry Tallent (bass) and Vini Lopez (drums). There doesn't sound as if there are more than 30 or 40 people in the club during these performances.
Lopez handles the lead vocal on Eric Clapton's "Bottle Of Red Wine". Van Zandt provides the Greg Allman-ish vocals on Willie Dixon's composition "You Know My Love" (mentioned as being inspired by Otis Rush's version), as well as a truly mesmerizing Van Zandt original called "Why's It So Hard" - one of the best songs Steve's ever written and as good as anything Bruce was writing at the time. Hagstrom's organ playing on this track is stunning. Springsteen provides lead vocal and guitar on Walter Brown's immortal "Confessin' The Blues" (covered by countless artists), as well as John Lee Hooker's boogie blues romp "Sweet Miss Sally". Springsteen does not seem to be onstage performing except during the two songs he sings. Note: often circulates with a track or two missing or with "When You Dance" from a Student Prince show (see 3/9/71) added on.
