![]() ~ What Is Wishing Powder? ~While I was there browsing over the various booths set up for Massage Therapy, Tarot and other readings, Aura Photography, Totem Animal Portraits and various tables filled with herbs and spell kits, I encountered a bowl filled with little bags of white sand and gold glitter. The bag was labeled Fairy Wishing Powder and informed me that it was a free sample. I took the little bag, put it in my pocket with my stack of business cards and informational papers taken from other tables, and forgot about it until well after I returned home. One day while I was cleaning out some of my excess papers (something I need to do rather frequently) I ran across that little bag of wishing powder. I had progressed in my metaphysical studies since first acquiring the bag and, as I looked at it in my hand, I decided that I could make something similar myself. But I decided to replace the white sand with magically empowered herbs and glitter in colors that corresponded to the use the powder was intended for. I was extremely happy with my initial results. The powders were pleasing to the eye and provided wonderful magical results. The only addition I have made since that initial excursion into the production of magical powders is the addition of essential oils. I started doing this because clients who purchased my powders often expected them to be strongly scented like potpourri. And, while some of the herbs I used were strongly scented on their own, most of the products provided little or no smell, and essential oils were the perfect solution. So, you're asking, how the heck am I supposed to use these things once I've made them? I find the use of wishing powders is very intuitive and that once you've started using them in your magical work, ideas for how to keep using them begin to crop up right and left. Perhaps the easiest way to use a magical powder is to select a powder that corresponds to something that you need let's say a little extra cash to help pay an unexpected bill. Take a pinch of the powder and hold it in your hand. Focus strongly on what your need is you may even wish to vocalize your request. Then, when you feel the powder pulsing with the energy of your wish in your hand, release it to the wind, drop it in running water, or sprinkle it on the earth. You could also burn the powder if you were seeking a little fire energy for your spell just remember that not all substances (herbs, oils, and glitter) smell good while burning. I find another place that wishing powders really shine is when performing any sort of candle magic. Simply dump some powder out into a shallow dish. Rub your candle(s) with a corresponding essential oil and then roll the candle in the powder before performing the spell as usual. That little extra bit of energy really helps me in my magical work!
