The Angelic Choirs

Seraphim - The order of Seraphim is comprised of the four angels, each corresponding to one of the four winds of the world, who are stationed closest to the divine. They are often depicted surrounding the throne of glory.

Cherubim - The Cherubim are the second of the nine angelic choirs, and are the guardians of all celestial light including the sun, moon, and stars.

Thrones - The Thrones, who comprise the third angelic choir, are each assigned the care of a single planet. The Thrones are said to reside in the fourth heaven.

Dominions - The Dominions are divine leaders who are often depicted holding emblems of authority such as scepters or orbs.

Powers - The Powers are credited with being the first created angels. They include the angels of Birth and Death and are charged with keeping track of human history.

Virtues - The sixth angelic choir is made up of the angels in charge of the elements and weather.

Principalities - The Principalities are guardians on a grand scale. They look after continents, countries, cities, or governing bodies that affect the world on a grand scale such as the United Nations.

Archangels - The term �Archangel� generally refers to all angels above the rank of Angel as well as designating a specific order of angels in the celestial hierarchy. These angels are the Special Forces of the angelic realm.

Angels - Angels are those beings assigned to a specific person.

Individual Angels

Ariel - Ariel is a wonderful angel to call on when you are in need of protection. Mention has also been made of Ariel assisting Raphael in the curing of disease, so it may be beneficial to call on him to aid in matters of healing.

Azrael - In both Hebrew and Islamic lore Azrael is the Angel of Death. It is said that he is forever writing in a large book and forever erasing what he writes. What he writes are the names of men at their birth. What he erases are the names of men who have reached the end of their lives.

Gabriel - Gabriel is cited as the angel of the Moon, the annunciation, resurrection, mercy, vengeance, death, birth, transformation, revelation and mystery revealed. He is one of the two highest-ranking angels in religious lore, and although he is the ruling prince of the first heaven, he is said to sit at the left-hand side of God.

Metatron - When invoked, Metatron appears as a �pillar of fire, his face more dazzling than the sun.� It is his duty to act as the link between humans and the divine.

Michael - Michael ranks greatest of all angels and is the Chief of the Order of Virtues, Chief of the Archangels, Prince of the Presence, Angel of Repentance, Righteousness, Mercy, and Sanctification and also Ruler of the Fourth Heaven. It is said that he holds the keys to the kingdom of Heaven.

Raphael - Raphael is an angel of love and laughter who is closely connected to the element of Air.

Raziel - The name Raziel means �Secret of God,� and it is said that he seeks and knows everything.

Uriel - In addition to his strong connection to the element of Fire, Uriel is also linked with the element of Earth, and it is said that he holds the keys to the fairy kingdoms.
