Makayla cant see her family or friends (only her her mommy, daddy and grandma and grandpa) for approx 10 months.� She DEARLY misses her bubbie, zaida and all her aunt's and uncle!!!!!� |

Makayla Reese has been diagnosed with Cartilage Hair Hypoplasia.� This is causing her to have SCIDS (severe combined immune deficiency syndrome).� Both Ian and I are carriers of this syndrome.� She is currently in isolation (since Oct 24, 2001) at Sick Kids Hospital waiting for a Bone Marrow Transplant.� We need to find a donor first!!!!!! |

In November Makayla was given another hebrew name to bring her luck.� Her name is now Shoshana Malka Chaya (meaning life). |

Makayla is doing great in isolation.� She is a happy baby and loves all the attention she is getting.� So far we are doing great with the IGG (antibodies)� infusions.� This is keeping her healthy.� She needs these approx every 3 weeks.� She will need Chemotherapy before the bone marrow.� We are trying to keep her happy and healthy until that point. We were told it was a MIRACLE that Makayla was never sick before being diagnosed, considering she did not have ANY antibodies to ward off diseases!� Cord blood would not have helped due to her bad blood, and it was a blessing I did not breast feed (as per doctors), b/c she would have been sick fast. |

Aug 18th- Well on Aug 16th we got the best news of our lives...MAKAYLA STILL IS PRODUCING GREATER THEN 90% DONOR MARROW!!!!! This is the best birthday gift I could ever ask for (my 30th b day is tomorrow).....I am the happiest mother alive. Now since Makayla's counts are still low the doctors want to start weaning her off the meds faster then they have been doing! So tomorrow we will spend all day at the hospital so makayla can recieve an IGG (antibody) infusion (she hasnt needed one in 3 months). We were all nervous about this test coming back...but are obviously delighted with the new results.
