Love is Family
To My Mom
Mom, so much of who I am
comes from being your child,
from growing up under your care.
You made our home a warm,
safe place to be where it was ok
to make mistakes and learn from them -
a place filled with love.
As I got older, I must have
tested your patience often
with my adolescent conviction
that I had a grasp on the world
you had somehow missed,
but you knew that I needed
to make my own decisions.
And somehow you managed
to let me know that
you'd always be there for me.
Now all the things
you've taught me
over the years are a part of me
The choices I make
and the way I look at life
have so much to do
with how I was raised.
No one else could
ever take the special place
you have in my heart,Mom.
I'll never forget
all that you taught me
when I was growing up.
And I'll never grow to old
for your love.
Mom,
When just barely out of his teens, my oldest son came up to me one day out of the blue - not my birthday, nor Mother's Day, just an ordinary every day - and presented me with a card. This poem was on that card. As I read it my eyes grew misty. I felt his love for me more that day than words could ever convey. He has always had my love, yet on that day I thought my heart was going to burst. I count my blessings every day for such a loving family. And, through all this emotion, I thought of you and knew instantly that these words were also meant for you from me.
I'm glad you're my Mom. I LOVE YOU.
