| Interview with Jennifer Aniston 08/08/01 from etonline.com MARK STEINES: Okay, let's talk first about the look in the movie. JENNIFER ANISTON: Pretty good look, huh? MARK: Was this close to what you looked like in the '80s? JENNIFER: You know what, it wasn't too far. I had a lot more layers and my hair was kind of purple -- more plum, let's say. MARK: You were't punk, were you? JENNIFER: Well, I had a phase in '83-'84, that period where hair was really short and shaved right above the ear. MARK: You went there. JENNIFER: That was awful. Actually I like to block that moment out, but yeah. And then it kind of grew out and went plum. MARK: I think I saw a soundbite on a tape where you said you really were a heavy-metal rocker chick. JENNIFER: No. I wasn't really. I had my closeted love for heavy metal, but it was kind of that period of time where it was like THE GOGOS and DEPECHE MODE, and that kind of new wave was coming ... DURAN DURAN. And then there was always AEROSMITH, and DEF LEPPARD, and you know, MOTLEY CRUE and all of those guys. MARK: Wow, you did your research, didn't you? You had to dig all this stuff up? JENNIFER: I dug it right out of the grave. (laugh) MARK: Now, I'm told that love scenes are very difficult to do. JENNIFER: Yes. MARK: How did you find them? JENNIFER: Very difficult. MARK: With MARK WAHLBERG? JENNIFER: He's so wonderful. I mean, it's so technical. We were completely professional ... it's just awkward. Nobody could make it comfortable, truthfully. MARK: There is one scene that we got a clip of with a little body piercing thing you guys got going on. Have you done that before? JENNIFER: No. I've pierced my own ears, but I've actually never pierced anybody's nipples. Can't say that. MARK: At least that you remember. JENNIFER: Yeah, that I can remember. MARK: Because those '80s were... JENNIFER: ...before the blackouts happened (laughs) MARK: You pierced your own ears? JENNIFER: Yes. With a potato and a piece of celery. I was around 13, 14, the same time when the hair went off. It was about that time period. MARK: Did it hurt? JENNIFER: No. You ice it up, put a little ice cube on it, put the potato ... I can't remember how it actually went ... but, it didn't hurt. And then there was a string involved, because you take a needle and thread, and then you hit it with the potato, if I remember it correctly. It was a long time ago, but somehow it worked, and you have little string earrings for a while. I was with my mother, my mother helped me. MARK: Your mother let you do this? JENNIFER: Yeah, my mother helped me. I thought that was cool. MARK: Now, the movie is about the pressures of stardom, of fame, and as I sat and watched this and saw your character, I thought, some of this must echo what goes on in your real life. True? JENNIFER: Gosh, no. Not that. Aside from the fact that you go out and you have these annoying pests that follow you every once in a while on a Sunday afternoon, you get in your car, you go to work, you stop at the Coffee Bean, you get a coffee, you know, your life is pretty normal, and there's pressures ... the only pressures are the distance, sometimes. You know? That's a drag. MARK: Because you and BRAD (PITT) are working apart? JENNIFER: Yeah. MARK: But you guys visited. Brad visited on the set? JENNIFER: Yeah. Absolutely. But that was also in town. That was in L.A. MARK: Let me ask you about my favorite show on television... JENNIFER: (laugh) Imagine if you went, "'Frasier.' Let's talk about 'Frasier.' I love 'Frasier.'" MARK: Is there a chance that Brad might come on and do something? JENNIFER: I don't think so. No. Anything's possible, but, again, more wild rumors that just started. MARK: Tell me about rumors, I mean, the cliff hanger, we're all waiting. Did you see that coming? JENNIFER: Oh, God No. They didn't tell me that was happening. Our own crew was coming up and congratulating me. I mean, we sent the audience away, we did it at two in the morning, they came and handed us the pages at the last minute. We shot a fake ending for the audience, and then, whoa. Wow. Okay. And then our crew is coming up going "Oh, I can't believe it, congratulations Jen" And I'm like, "Guys, I'm not pregnant, I'm telling you." MARK: And they don't believe you at that point. JENNIFER: No. Nobody does. The BBC didn't believe us. MARK: (laugh) I don't believe you. JENNIFER: You don't believe me? I'm carrying it well. MARK: How far along are you? JENNIFER: Eight months. MARK: That's amazing. JENNIFER: Thank you -- it's the Zone. MARK: The Zone diet while pregnant. When's the book coming out? (laugh) So, will I see "Friends" after this year? JENNIFER: I don't know. Maybe not -- maybe. As far as I know. We don't know. This is our last year, as far as I know. It's our swan song. Senior year. Put mamma to bed. |
