Laban ng
Masa asserted rights to march along EDSA
Amidst threat of being
dispersed, the militant coalition Laban ng Masa asserted their
rights and marched from Cubao Quezon
City to Edsa Shrine where a mass will be celebrated in
commemoration of the 1986 Edsa Revolt.
According to Rasti Delizo, Laban ng Masa National Council
Member and Spokesperson of Sanlakas said, “Our march is a peaceful
and legitimate march, the police have no basis in dispersing us, our
group agreed that when we reach Edsa shrine we will fold our flags
and banners and pay respect to the mass held in the shrine.”
Yesterday, Laban ng Masa and the Kilusan ng Makabansang
Ekonomiya (KME) agreed to hold mass with Bishop Iniguez and other
church people at the Edsa Shrine where permit was issued by the
Catholic
Church who administers the venue.
“Edsa revolt in the time of fascist dictatorship didn’t apply
or being issued permit and successfully marched towards Edsa. This
is what we are commemorating, the re-birth of our freedom to
assemble and express our grievances.” Delizo added.
Leody De Guzman, president of Bukluran ng Manggagawang
Pilipino (BMP) and also a
National Council member of Laban ng Masa said, “Workers who
marched at Edsa expressed anguish over poverty and lack of
opportunity to live a decent life under this regime.”
“Lies coming from this illegitimate president are totally
unacceptable and did not bother to listen in her lame excuses that
were aired over the radio few days ago, workers need genuine change
not lies and excuses.” De Guzman added.
Laban ng Masa defined new kind of People Power as
“Power from below and not from the elite”. “Our
call is to oust the illegitimate Gloria regime, Reject Noli’s
constitutional succession and form a Transitional Revolutionary
Government.” De Guzman concluded.
