The Memons have always been known for their business acumen, their financial integrity, and their commitment to honor their word. Philanthropists and social workers, industrialists and traders, scholars and bankers, the Memons have carved a niche for their community in the country and in the world. Names like the Adamjees, Dawoods, Dadas, Maulana Edhi, Dr. O.V. Jooma, Kassim Parekh, Hussein Lawai, Dr. Omer Chappra, Iqbal Qasim, Lt.Gen A.O.Mitha, etc are renowned and respected Memon names.

However, recently new names have cropped up and which portray the darker side of the Memon community. Yunus Habib, the banker, Samad Dadabhoy, the investor, Aziz Memon, the union kingpin, and now the Tawakkals, the industrial tycoons.

Maybe it is time for the Memons to be proud of someone like "Tiger" Memon, allegedly the brain behind the Mumbai blasts a few years ago!
