There has been intense speculation and debate over the delay in the presentation of the Federal budget by the Finance Minister. Some say it was the last minute changes ordered by the Cabinet while some blame the Urdu word processor. The actual reason can now be disclosed to put to rest all this controversy.

When Shaukat Aziz arrived at the PTV studios in his impeccably tailored suit, Javed Jabbar, the Media Minister, advised him that the dress suit would not do and he had to be sartorially correct. It had to be either a Sherwani or a Waistcoat. The Finance Minister then had to rush his PRO pronto to the Super Market in Islamabad to fetch a white shalwar kameez and a black Waistcoat.

Those who have a discerning eye for fashion would have noticed that the Finance Minister wore a loose shalwar kameez while the Waistcoat was a size larger. The ready-to-wear apparel was all that the PRO could manage at short notice. That’s all there was to the delay. The controversy can now be put to rest.
