This is with reference to the letter of Mr Bantvi published in your esteemed newspaper. He has really shown the MPs in their true colors. Of course, he could have given them more privileges. For example:
- How about a plane for each member, maintained and run on government expense.
- How about a picture of President Bill Clinton, personally signed and addressed to the MPs. Hillary Clinton can bring some during her sojourn to Pakistan in March, while the Prime Minister can bring the rest after her yatra to the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave in April.
- How about an award of Nishan-e-Imtiaz to be conferred on each MP by the President at a special investiture ceremony.
- How about postage stamps in their honor. Naturally, their constituents will use these when required and furthermore, these would be collector’s items too.
- How about an exclusive biographical directory of MPs for distribution to all Parliaments all over the world, to all major libraries across the continents, and to those who want to buy them for their personal records.
- How about a mammoth Hall of Fame, where the portraits of these MPs, painted by renowned Pakistani artists like Gulgee, Iqbal Mehdi, Mashkoor Raza, et al, are displayed for people to pay homage to these great men and women.
- How about naming villages and towns after them.
These are some of the privileges that come to mind. The Joke has begun. The logical conclusion is just one: The MPs should also wear an uniform. How about "caps and bells", and you know what that denotes, don’t you ?
