The PTV in Khabarnama ran an item showing the Punjab Governor chairing a high-level meeting on the water crisis. The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, MNAs, and senior officials. Federal Water and Power Minister, Ghulam Mustafa Khar, was present too.

What was more apparent was the dress of the MNA from Muzzafargarh. He was wearing regulation camouflage fatigues issued by the Pakistan Army. Khar has been a Governor, Chief Minister, Federal Minister, political exile, alleged traitor, alleged RAW agent, somebody’s Feudal Lord, head of the Khar Clan, etc. Till today no one has ever talked about him getting a commission in the Pakistan Army.

The obvious question then is: Why was he wearing Army fatigues ? How come no one has raised a voice against this act ? Why did Ch. Altaf, Wattoo, and others kept quiet ? Is there a new rule that the MNAs or Ministers can wear military uniforms ? Is it then OK if civilians like us can feed their egos by donning a General’s uniform ? Maybe an influential person like G M Khar can do anything he wants without impunity ? The more equal than others syndrome !
