June 24, 2000 Western Pennsylvania Flight of the Mid-Atlantic Squadron game day at Jim Barber's house
Action shot of Jim Barber (purple & green wings) and me (green & white fuselage) in smoking Albatros D.IIIs enduring a top attack from Carl Fritz's 36-mission S.E.5 pilot in February 1918. After a surprise attack by the Brits, Jim took out Don McCalmon's engine over the front, causing him to crash in no-man's-land. Jim was forced to land in German territory by Carl, and I managed to escape. |
Carl looks like he's up to someting as he helps hide one of Don's rolls, Don was in an Albatros D.V, Carl in a Fokker Dr.I against my SPAD VII and Jim's Breguet 14. Jim's back-seater hit Don's pilot in the head, sending him spiraling down, allowing Jim and I to effect our escape before Carl finished us off. |
Don thinks hard over his next move in his S.E.5a after being shot down in the first two missions. He knew Jim in his Fokker Dr.I and I in my Albatros D.Va were gunning for him. |
Don and Carl box up to protect themselves from the German onslaught in the same mission. It didn't work Jim in his triplane and I in an Albatros V-strutter sandwiched poor Don, forcing him to glide to a landing just short of his own lines, after which we proceeded to chase Carl off the map. |
Don and Jim, in Pfalz D.IIIas, team up to fight Carl in a SPAD VII and me in a SPAD XIII. I chased Don into the clouds, but as things were breaking up, Jim lightly wounded my pilot causing him to pass out and break up in a spin. |
