| Les Miserables-The site with info and with a novel, essay, and a bunch of other crazy stuff that will give you info on this book. The book this site is on is mainly about poverty, strain, societal discomfort, and a whole bunch of suffering. There are several characters, and I will provide a brief summary of their role in the book, their history etc. This page will be pretty long, so have fun reading and enjoy the show. OH! These are in order from my favorite to least favorite characters, but I'm not biased or anything, I just think that justice should be served and that those who know what they are doing should go first. Once a criminal, always a criminal. Javert- The really cool cop. He is static until the end, and when he finally sees the light, he drowns himself by jumping in the Seine. I cried. His life long goal was to catch Jean Valjean, an ex-convict trying to escape the law. They meet at many times, but Javert never seems to be able to keep Valjean for very long. Then he is rescued by the very man he wanted to kill, and in return, he lets the man go. Then after contemplating his decision to give up his dream, he feels traitorous to himself and commits suicide. The reason I like him so much, is because he too was miserable in a way no one else was. He was alone in his static nature, and just alone. He believed that all that mattered was that the world was served justice, and his firmness in his beliefs drove him to his death. He never gave up on what he believed until the very end, and decided that he was punishable by death. And he is a good guy, because he is determined to catch a man who is running from the law, and who cannot accept his past. The song in the background is his broadway music. And this page is dedicated to him. STARS There, out in the darkness, A fugitive running, Fallen from grace, Fallen from grace. God be my witness I shall never yield Till we come face to face, Till we come face to face! He knows his way in the dark, But mine is the way of the Lord And those who follow the path of the righteous Shall have their reward. And if they fall, As Lucifer fell, The flame, The sword. Stars in your multitudes, Scarce to be counted, Filling the darkness With order and light. You are the sentinels, Silent and sure, Keeping watch in the night, Keeping watch in the night. You know your place in the skies You hold your course and your aim And each in your season Returns and returns And is always the same. And if you fall As Lucifer fell You fall in flame! And so it has been, and so it's written On the doorways to paradise, That those who falter And those who fall Must pay the price... Scarce to be counted, Changing the chaos, To order and light. You are the sentinels, Silent and sure Keeping watch in the night Keeping watch in the night. Okay, I rented Les Miserables directed by Liam Neelson, and it did the entire movie in what seemed Javert's point of view. It also showed how he spied on Jean Valjean, and now I've decided to write about Javert's childhood because of that movie. It was an excellent movie, and well done, even if it did skip a few things. And it ended just after Javert drowned himself, and Jean Valjean walked free. So, on the next few pages from the link below, it is a story of Javert's childhood based on information gathered from the book and the two movies I have seen so far. I am also working on some pictures to put on here, but I am having a hard time finding any, so bear with me. Javert, The Life of Perfection |
