[Chapter One] [Chapter Two] [Chapter Three]
Chapter Two

The car pulled to a stop. Lily watched as her parents car pulled up beside them. The man got out and walked over to Lilys side. Opening the door, he grabbed her arm and guided her out of the car.

As she stepped out, she looked over the top of the car. She could see a man walking out of the building, a sad look on his face, a woman following closely behind.

The man holding her arm slammed the door shut and pulled her around the car so that she was standing face to face with the adults from the building. Her parents quietly moved closer to Lily.

Samuel, take the handcuffs off of her. The other man said. His eyes still held a sad look, but a stern look had taken over the rest of his face. Lily, this is Ally Peterson. Shes another one of the counselors at the camp.

He looked up at her parents and smiled tensely at them. Ally and Samuel will help you take Lilys bags to the cabin she will be staying in. You can have a moment to say goodbye to her now. After her bags are in the cabin, I have to ask that you will leave immediately.

He stepped aside with Samuel and Ally and left Lily and her parents alone. Her mothers eyes were red and puffy from crying, but now they were dry. Her stepfather looked sad.

Were sorry Lily, her stepfather said quietly. But, we cant let you continue living your life the way you are. The lifestyle you have chosen is going to kill you someday if you dont cut it out now.

Is that all? Lily spat bitterly at her mother and stepfather. Youre sending me here to fix my lifestyle and thats all? What about your friends? You know youre ashamed of taking me out in public, of having your friends over when Im around.

Her mother gasped. Lily she started to say.

Lily, her stepfather started at the same time. When her mother cut off he continued. It is true, wed like to be able to have our friends come over, but cant when youre at home. But we want you to get better. Thats why youre here.

Looking over Lilys shoulder her mother said, Theyre coming back.

Lily turned and saw Samuel and Ally following that man on their way back to Lily and her parents.

Bye sweetie, her mother whispered squeezing back the tears that had suddenly appeared in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around her daughter, her only child. Slowly releasing her she said, I love you.

Lilys stepfather brought her closer for a hug. I love you too, baby. See you again.

Then stepping away from their child, they left Lily alone in front of the three counselors. Not taking his eyes away Lily, the man said, Samuel and Ally, you help Lilys parents take her bags to her cabin.

Lily glared at the man, looking upset and angry on the outside. But inside, she was happy and joyous. Her plan had worked. She was now at Rocky Pines.

Quickly and swiftly her uncle grabbed her arm and pulled her into the building and through the offices to one of the windowless rooms.

Ally stared at the door through which David had just dragged Lily. Ally had never seen him act like this. Instead of his usual Welcome to Rocky Pines. I am David Walters one of the counselors here, and this is Ally Peterson the other counselor speech he had started with introducing Ally and ordering everyone around.

He had never stopped to shake Lilys parents hands as usual, and her parents had seemed just fine with that. They were just fine with letting this nameless stranger take their daughter into that building alone.

And Davids usual kind, soft and comforting voice had been replaced by a tense, stern and harsh voice.

Ally! Samuel yelled finally getting her attention. She turned around.

Sorry Samuel, she said looking at Samuel and Lilys parents who were all staring at her. What did you want?

I wanted to give you these bags. Samuel said eyeing her strangely. And, show her mother up to her cabin. Her stepfather and I will follow with the other bags.

Okay, Ally said grabbing the bags. Turning to look at Lilys mother she said, Follow me

Linda. Linda Johnston. Mrs. Johnston told Ally her name.

Sorry. Follow me Linda. Ally apologized. Leading Mrs. Johnston to Lilys new home, she continued thinking about Davids strange attitude ever since he got saw the papers about Lily.

Once David had gotten them into the room and locked the door he let his guard down. He pulled the latex gloves from his pockets and put them on. When he turned around to look at Lily she saw him flinch from the new look in his eyes. He knew that the anger he felt was shining through loud and clear.

Sit down Lily. He sighed tiredly. Lily sat down, straight and stiff. Give me your shoes.

Quietly Lily took off her shoes and handed them to David. He looked into them, pulling up the soles. You are now a camper at Rocky Pines. You do what we tell you and abide by our rules. He began the speech as he put his hand into her shoe, feeling around. Putting the sole back in he put her shoe on the table and picked up the other one, doing the same thing. Our rules are simple. No drugs, no alcohol, no sex and no violence. If we catch you doing any of these things, you will have a suspension and will be sent to the suspension house for however length of time we deem fit.

He put the shoe by the other one and looked into her eyes. Suspension times range from one day to a week. After ten suspensions we send you home. You have three chances to come to Rocky Pines to get straightened out before you face the possibility of going to a Juvie Hall. We expect that youll only have to come here once.

While you are here, you will be attending classes, as well as meeting with your group a bunch of other teens from your grade level and going out on camping, hiking or whatever other kind of activities we go on. We expect you to participate and give your one hundred percent in these activities.

You can receive mail and phone calls, however all mail will screened to make sure nothing bad comes in. You are required to make a phone call home every two weeks. Standing up he motioned for her to do the same. Show me your pockets.

Lily stood and pulled her pockets inside out. He looked at them and nodded. She pushed them back in. Hold your arms out at your sides. He told her. She did what he said and he frisked her checking for drugs, alcohol, or any weapons she might be carrying with her. You can sit back down. He said when his search came up with nothing.

She sat down again and tearing the gloves off his hands, he sat down staring into her eyes. Samuel helped your parents pack her stuff, hes already checked everything for drugs and alcohol and weapons. In a moment Ill take you to your cabin where you can get to know the other girls youll be living with and get ready for bed, but first, I have to ask you something.

What? she spoke for the first time, her voice cool.

Wincing at the tone of her voice he closed his eyes and then opened them again, Whywhy did you do this? What happened to make you change so suddenly.

You figure that out. She challenged.

Knocking on the door he asked, Can I come in?

Yeah. A bunch of female voices answered.

Opening the door, David guided Lily into the dorm. It wasnt at all what she expected. They entered the living room, where there were couches and a stereo.

Lily, this is where youll be staying. This is the living room. Theres a stereo and CDs that we have provided. Theres a wide assortment of music, you should be able to find something that you like. Down that hall are the bedrooms and down the other hall are the bathrooms. There are three bathrooms and four bedrooms. Three girls per bedroom. Good, everyones here. He said looking at the crowd in the living room. Lily, these are the girls youll be living with. They are also the girls that will be in your group. This is Nadia, Maia, Felicity, Talia, Jana, Maura, Jordana, Antonia, Sally, Nicole, and Trisha. Girls, this is Lily and shes your new roommate. Show her around, and show her where shell be sleeping. Remember, you can sleep late but we have a meeting at ten.

The girls nodded. Goodnight girls. He said and then looking at Lily he forced himself to say, Welcome to Rocky Pines Lily.

Walking out of the door he shut it and leaned against it closing his eyes. He didnt want to welcome her to the camp. His niece shouldnt be there. He furiously blinked away the tears that were gathering in his eyes and walked back to the counselors dorm.
